Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you want to know before starting therapy at Inward Healing Therapy

1. What can I expect during my first session?

The first session is about connection, not perfection. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, what you’d like to work on, and what feels most important to you right now. You’ll also have a chance to ask questions about my approach, so the session feels collaborative and comfortable. Most clients leave feeling lighter and relieved that they finally took the first step.

Yes! We offer secure online therapy for adults throughout California. Many clients love the flexibility of virtual sessions because it saves time, reduces commute stress, and allows them to feel grounded in an environment of their choosing.

At this time, Inward Healing Therapy is exclusively offering online therapy for California residents. Many of our clients appreciate being able to meet from the privacy of their own home, office, or even while traveling. Online therapy allows you to stay consistent with your sessions no matter where life takes you, and for many high-achieving adults, that flexibility makes it easier to prioritize emotional health without adding more stress to their schedule.

If you’re new to virtual therapy, we’ll walk you through the simple setup and ensure you feel fully supported from day one.

If you’ve ever thought, “I know why I keep repeating the same patterns, but I can’t stop myself,” or find yourself feeling down and being hard on yourself, therapy can help. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit. Therapy is for anyone who wants to feel more balanced, confident, and connected, especially those who have spent years putting others first or overachieving at the cost of their own peace.

Our clinicians specialize in evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Helps you identify and reframe negative thoughts and patterns that contribute to anxiety, depression, and self-doubt.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Focuses on emotional regulation, communication, and distress tolerance to help you respond more calmly and effectively.
  • IFS and Inner Child Work: Guides you in healing the roots of insecure attachment, people-pleasing, and “never feeling enough.” IFS is effective in healing childhood trauma.
We often integrate these approaches so your healing process feels holistic and personalized.

Our session rates range from $150–$200 for licensed therapists and $150 for associate therapists under supervision. We are a private pay practice, which means we do not bill insurance directly, allowing you full privacy and flexibility in your care.

If you have out-of-network benefits, you may qualify for partial reimbursement. We also partner with Mentaya, a platform that handles all insurance paperwork for you and makes reimbursement simple (for a 5% fee per claim).

Private pay therapy protects your confidentiality and gives you full control over your treatment. When billing insurance, therapists must assign a mental health diagnosis that becomes part of your medical record. Private pay allows us to focus on you as a whole person, not just a diagnosis.

It also offers greater freedom to decide how long you’d like to be in therapy, what approaches we use, and what goals matter most to you, without the limitations of insurance approvals.

Everyone’s journey looks different. Some clients come for a few months to work on a specific goal, while others choose to stay longer for deeper healing. What’s most important is that therapy moves at your pace. Over time, you’ll notice yourself reacting differently, communicating more effectively, and feeling more grounded and self-assured.

Most clients begin with weekly sessions to build momentum and consistency. As you start to feel more confident and grounded, we can transition to biweekly sessions. The goal is to create a rhythm that supports your growth and doesn’t feel overwhelming.

We work with adults who want to:

  • Heal from anxiety, depression, or burnout
  • Break free from people-pleasing and perfectionism
  • Strengthen emotional regulation and communication
  • Heal from childhood trauma and attachment wounds
  • Learn to set healthy boundaries without guilt

Our work focuses on helping you reconnect with your true self, develop emotional maturity, and finally feel “good enough.”

At this time, we primarily offer individual therapy for adults. However, many clients who start individual therapy notice improvements in their relationships as they build awareness and communication skills.

That’s completely valid, and you’re not alone. Sometimes past therapy experiences didn’t go deep enough, or you didn’t feel truly understood. Our approach combines evidence-based tools with relational, attachment-informed care, so you can process at both a cognitive and emotional level.
